Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters. Here's exactly what data NotchHub collects (spoiler: none).
TL;DR — The Short Version
- We collect zero personal data.
- We have no analytics or tracking.
- NotchHub works 100% offline.
- We don't sell, share, or monetize any data.
- No account required. Ever.
That's it. Seriously. If you want the legal details, read on.
1. Introduction
NotchHub ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection — or more accurately, our commitment to not collecting your data.
We believe that software can be both powerful and privacy-respecting. NotchHub is designed from the ground up to work entirely on your device, with no need to send any information to external servers.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Personal Information
None. We do not collect any personal information. This includes but is not limited to:
- Name, email address, or contact information
- Device identifiers or hardware information
- IP addresses or location data
- Usage patterns or behavior data
- Content of your notifications or messages
2.2 Analytics & Telemetry
None. NotchHub contains:
- No analytics SDKs (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.)
- No crash reporting services (Crashlytics, Sentry, etc.)
- No usage tracking or telemetry
- No A/B testing frameworks
2.3 Network Connections
NotchHub makes zero network connections. The app works entirely offline and does not communicate with any servers — ours or third parties.
The only exceptions are:
- Update checks: If you enable automatic updates in macOS System Preferences, your Mac may check our server for new versions. This is handled by macOS, not by NotchHub directly.
- App integrations: When you enable integrations like Spotify or Slack, NotchHub reads data from those apps locally. We do not proxy or transmit this data anywhere.
3. How Your Data Stays Local
3.1 Notification Content
When NotchHub displays notifications, it reads the notification content directly from macOS notification APIs. This data is:
- Processed entirely on your device
- Never stored beyond the display duration
- Never transmitted anywhere
3.2 Preferences & Settings
Your NotchHub preferences (themes, widget settings, etc.) are stored locally on your Mac in:
~/Library/Preferences/app.notchhub.NotchHub.plist
This file never leaves your computer.
3.3 Media Integration
When displaying music information from Spotify, Apple Music, or other apps, NotchHub accesses publicly available macOS media APIs. Album artwork and track information are cached temporarily in memory and discarded when no longer needed.
4. Third-Party Services
NotchHub does not integrate with any third-party data collection services. Specifically, we do not use:
- Google Analytics or Firebase
- Facebook SDK or Meta Pixel
- Advertising networks
- Data brokers
- Customer analytics platforms
5. Permissions We Request
NotchHub requires certain macOS permissions to function. Here's exactly why:
6. Data Security
Since we don't collect data, there's no data to secure on our end. Your preferences and local data are protected by:
- macOS built-in file system encryption (FileVault)
- macOS app sandboxing
- Apple's code signing and notarization
7. Children's Privacy
NotchHub does not collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no personal information, COPPA compliance is straightforward: there's nothing to comply with.
8. International Users
NotchHub is available worldwide. Since we don't collect or transfer any data, there are no international data transfer concerns. GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulations are satisfied by our zero-data-collection approach.
8.1 Your GDPR Rights
Under GDPR, you have rights regarding your personal data. Here's how they apply to NotchHub:
- Right to Access: We have no data to provide.
- Right to Rectification: We have no data to correct.
- Right to Erasure: We have no data to delete.
- Right to Data Portability: We have no data to export.
Your local preferences can be deleted by uninstalling the app or removing the preferences file.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We will never change our core commitment to not collecting your data.
If we ever decide to collect any data in the future (we don't plan to), we will:
- Notify users prominently before any collection begins
- Make data collection opt-in only
- Clearly explain what data is collected and why
10. Open Source Verification
Don't just take our word for it. NotchHub's privacy claims can be verified:
- Network monitoring: Use Little Snitch, LuLu, or similar tools to verify NotchHub makes no network connections.
- Code inspection: Our core privacy components are open source at github.com/notchhub.
- Apple notarization: Our app is notarized by Apple, meaning it has passed Apple's security review process.
